Ever have one of those moments that puts time into perspective like few others could? Like when a friend’s kid turns 10-16-18-21 or whatever and then you get to thinking…WOW…that time went fast? Yeah, I got an e-mail from Sandy Fulton at Wicomico County Parks & Rec. yesterday counting down the 38 (now 37) days until the big event! (http://www.porkinthepark.org) She tells us that there are 125 teams competing…that’s A LOT more than last year and ought to lock in the ‘Biggest KCBS Event East of the Mississippi’ title for yet another year!
That said, then I got to thinking about all the stuff that we’ve got to do to get ready for the gig! There are sauces and rubs to make…concoctions to mix up, test runs, meat orders, arrrggghhhhhhh! Only 37 DAYS??? Well, like usual, I think that we’ll do just fine and we’re once again looking forward to a great time at a BIG event with LOTS of stuff for everyone to see & do and the best Competitors around! If you’ve got nothing to do from April16th to the 18th…come on down to Salisbury, MD and have one heck of a good time!
If you can’t spend the whole weekend, just come for a day! My recommendation would be to show up early or mid morning on the 18th and walk around the Pits! You’ll get a chance to see some great Chefs and Pitmasters at work and to ask questions as you like. Then you’ve got some time during the afternoon to take advantage of the live music and other festivities! Friday night will offer a Country Showdown and Saturday night welcomes the return of the Battle of the Bands competition. All entertainment is included with admission and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket to grab a great seat. Many regional craftsmen and artists will also take part in the festivities offering their jewelry, pottery, photography and artwork. Sunday afternoon will feature a Classic Car Competition and the Backyard BBQ Amateur competition. All weekend, kids will have a special area of their own- the Piglet’s Corner, an area with free crafts and entertainment as well as the Amusement ride area with kid rides, slides and games.
So, mark those calendars and come celebrate the arrival of Spring and BBQ Season at “Pork-In-The-Park 2010”! We’ll be there and will be happy to say ‘hi’…stop by and see us when you come! – jak
