New Grill Tools Reviewed…

YES, we’ve updated the ‘Tips & Tricks’ at our Learn-to-Q site; How2Q.com…this month’s topic; BBQ Multi-Tools!  Just a brief primer on how to choose and use those long handled, multi tasking minions of the backyard grill.  Everyone’s seen them or received one as a gift and we found that while some are certainly much better than others…the best tools for the Grill or Smoker are the simplest!  Check out How2Q.com for more info!

Pork-In-The-Park 2009!

April 17th and 18th, 2009…get in the car and head on down to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Salisbury, MD to join us at Pork-In-The-Park 2009!  You won’t regret the drive and this Competition truly ROCKS!  Wicomico County Parks and Tourism folks know what they are doing and it shows during this weekend long event for the whole family.  In addition to hosting the KCBS Competition, which is anticipated to be the largest one East of the Mississippi, there’s LOTS of other stuff going on to entertain everyone!  You can ride the rides, enjoy a carnival or perhaps watch a remote control airshow…not to mention meet all the great folks there to compete in an incredible event. 

We’ll be there!  We are wrapping up final plans right now and will update all our fans by all means possible once we’ve got the plans firmed up!  Now’s the time to mark your calendars…you should plan on coming to Salisbury!

It’s COLD!!!

I know, if you read enough of my posts here and on the website…I can sound a bit ‘whiney’ at times about this subject, but at least I am CONSISTENT!

Not much new to report this morning, just a few brief updates:  You’ll notice continual changes to the website over the coming months as we streamline all of our stuff to have the same look and feel to it.  We will be doing some menu variations this year based on a new seasonal approach to our own Organic Gardens.  If you haven’t seen our new brochure yet, here’s the link; http://www.greatq4u.com/uploads/GreatQ4U_Brochure_with_Menu_Prices.pdf  – it’s also available on every page of the site; GreatQ4U.com if you prefer.  We are working to develop more relationships with local producers of high quality products both for our upcoming competitions as well as our catering menus! 

I must say that despite the COLD and my persistent mutterings, we are happy to keep the smokers warm year round here so…if you’ve got an event coming up…Think BBQ!!!  What better way to add a little taste of summer to the depths of winter?  Until next time….jak

Sunday Morning Blues…

…or perhaps more accurately ‘grays’?  – Early Sunday morning and the sun is just rising.  I’m sitting here in a dark room, fire in the corner (under control of course)  and desk lamp on…looking around online and seeing what other BBQ folks are doing to their menus this year.  Typically, I’m not so much of a ‘Peeping Jim’ if you will, but I have a purpose this morning…I am as you may have guessed by now…working on OUR new menu for ‘09!  I’ve got to say that I am excited about its eventual roll-out, hopefully soon!   We’re still doing Pork, Brisket, Chicken and Salmon and many of our sides will remain the same, but the difference will be significant! 

NEW FOR ‘09! Great headline, huh?  Thought of it myself…anyway I can’t give away the whole menu now ’cause we’re still testin’ and tastin’ as we make a few final decisions, BUT I can tell you some changes to expect:

  • We’re adding an Appetizer Menu loaded with a tasty variety of fresh meats, seafood & veggies…some grilled, some smoked…ALL Great!
  • We’re adding Station Options (Carving, Pulling, Rib) for folks looking to add a bit more ‘flair’ to their events
  • We’re working hard on a Value oriented menu to help tight budgets
  • We’ll be adding a menu of organic and sustainable options

That’s just the tip of the iceberg!  SO…as you can see we’ve got LOTS going on right now and the smokers burn on!  What’s more, we’ll be starting the video production of our first 2 minutes to GreatQ4U! tips tomorrow!  This week’s meat; Pork Shoulder!  We’re smoking a Butt and a Picnic Roast for the video, should be fun carving the whole process down into 2 minutes!  Should be on the GreatQ4U FaceBook page (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/GreatQ4U-BBQ-Catering-in-Central-Pennsylvania/30070237853) soon….so stay tuned.
